post count is a dumb metric anyway. I guess it is the closest approximation to activity / involvement and you want active / involved GM's but the danger in rewarding post counts is that people make inane replies like just a solitary for the sole sake of boosting post counts. Anyway, stop making excuses and admit that you fear the idea of the mighty Boneville Boners!

Actually the conversation I'd rather have is a discussion of whether new GM's should have to treat their own players the same as any other player or whether they should get them for free which is clearly unfair to the Thunder.
How bout this? The compensation to the Thunder for the lost player should be equal to N * that player's salary on his new team. Example, Oshiomogo takes his player from Thunder and puts him on his new team and gives him a salary of 3.5M. Mule should have N*3.5M added to his cap.
And we still obviously need a discussion of what N should be. I think it should be 2 to allow the Thunder a legitimate chance to build up the replacement to be at least somewhat comparable to the lost player.
See, if we're want to approximate potential GM value, a straight-forward post count is broke. Posts should be weighted by their insight and contribution. This one should be equal to like 10 posts and my Boner ones should be equal to like zero.

Actually, Oshiomogho was our first choice, and he doesn't post very much. He was able to make the argument that he's active but just doesn't post a lot of silly nonsense, and we found his argument convincing... especially considering some of the other services he has provided for the league. So while post count is a useful metric, it doesn't count for everything.
As for expansion teams trading for their own players... dude, expansion teams have enough problems already.

As for expansion teams trading for their own players... dude, expansion teams have enough problems already. So what about my N* idea since it doesn't affect the expansion teams? It just sets a fair market value for the lost player. Except if we do N*new_salary, then new GM's could be spiteful (since they probably hate Mule like the rest of us do) and set their new salaries to zero. So maybe we should do N*average(old_salary,new_salary).

We had two polls. Oshio won the first one 5-0. Kris won the second one 5-0 Actually it was 6-1 Oshiomogho (Kris got the other one) and 8-0 Kris.

I do like that Silver Fox's idea takes into account the value of the player when determining the compensation.

I like how a guy with 200 posts gets in. I've been here since season 1, am active and yet no team for me.

We wrestle with these topics in the Commissioners thread. They're very contentious issues that stir up a lot of argument. We'd prefer not to include everyone in these kinds of discussions, because some people don't handle themselves well in that kind of environment. This is why attitude and an ability to work with others is such an important consideration for new GMs.

Rational for not making it up for discussion please? Look, we have gone over this in the commishioner's office. Everybody thinks they should be involved in making the decisions.

We'd prefer not to include everyone in these kinds of discussions, because some people don't handle themselves well in that kind of environment. This is why attitude and an ability to work with others is such an important consideration for new GMs. Haven't you learned any lessons from the current federal administration? Open government is the best and fairest model. Sic Semper Tyrannis. I'm not saying rehash necessarily the entire argument. But denying us plebiians even the outcome of your conversation as well as your rational and considerations makes you seem highly arrogant and inconsiderate. You should tell us what the decided policy is and then bow out. If us plebes want to argue amongst ourselves, let us. But you should monitor the thread and allow yourselves to consider outside perspectives. We're not children. We are your community and we deserve better than Eielson's condescending "Because I said so."
