Hello folks, and welcome to Explosion Nightly. I am your lovable host, Tye Williams. Tonight is a special edition called Friday Night Tailgating, in which we have a brief show tonight, then we have a nice tailgating party outside in the 101.4 parking lot! But first, let's cover tonight's Expansion Draft! Without further adieu, here is the official results of tonight's draft:
1. Panthers - Jordon Kaplan
2. Wolves - Skeeter McPherson
3. Wolves - Ned Bashum
4. Panthers - Pete Speedy
5. Panthers - Dwayne Battle
6. Wolves - Sam Nowak
7. Wolves - Ray Smith
8. Panthers - Tristan Jenkins
9. Panthers - Andrew Berdahl
10. Wolves - Hoggy O'Hara
The undrafted honors go to: Los Angeles Falcons OLB Chris King! They can't seem to catch a break anywhere! This wasn't the only big news tonight, as a shocking trade was announced tonight as well:
The Hawaiian Surge traded starting FB Ben Mott to the Louisiana Cougars for CB Dwayne Battle and $3 M in cool cash. The reason for the deal is unknown, although Wilber Davis was on hand to make the following comment:
Wilber: "Here is another example of getting rid of trouble makers."
Dwayne Battle will likely become the Surge's new nickel back, after Doctor Doc was lost to free agency. Ben Mott will be the Panthers' starting RB, finally achieving what he never could in Hawaii. 101.4 The Explosion wishes both players the best of luck in their new homes.
The bidding war for WR Torry Holt continues, with the Dawgs, Falcons, Sharks, Surge, Panthers, and Wolves all offering contracts. The team that lands Holt will most likely swing the balance of power of the FSL their way. More on this very important story as it comes...
Troubled WR Jarret Mond is still on the market, most likely due to his attitude problems. He has shown his receiving ability in the slot, and I don't believe he will be out there for too much longer. An expansion team would be wise to pick him up as a #2 WR, or possibly a #1 depending on this year's crop of rookie WRs.
The Springfield Wolves seem intent on selecting QB David Gilden #1 OVR in the upcoming Season 3 Draft. Here is a statement from unofficial Wolves Co-GM Trav Man:
Trav: "The wolves have pretty much settled ont Ryan Gilden as the #1 pick, unless someone comes out with much better att's he'll be the guy. Hes the best ranked QB, hes a good friend of Kris' so it all makes sense for him to be the first selection of the wolves."
I personally think the Wolves can do better. Yes, he has 99 accuracy, but he has poor throwing velocity, and even worse awareness. The Wolves would see a lot of passes going the other way unless he would have a breakthrough in Football 101 or something.
Breaking news... The Springfield Wolves have offered WR Jarret Mond the following contract:
Year One-2.5 Million
Year Two-3.5 Million
Year Three- 2.0 Million(Player Option)
Boy, I sure am smart today!
In our last story of the night, Wilber Davis is leading a team of simmers to finish up the Minor League season by the end of the weekend. So far, Patrick Baker, Ben Mott, and Mike McComas are on board. Gino DeBomb and Jarret Mond have also offered their services. Good luck, and godspeed, gentlemen!
Well, that does it for our show, now to the 101.4 parking lot for tonight't Tailgating Party! I've got my grill, and some authentic Tye Williams airhorns. Let's go!
