It needs to be longer then wider. It can't stretch the page. About the size of the one up top is good. Not too tall that it gets annoying to scroll past.

I was thinking more about an animated one.
I know if it has too many frames, the file size gets too big. And when the file size is too big, it doesn't load quickly enough (for dial-up users).
That's what I was really asking about.
