We haven't decided yet. You will know after the season.

The GMs will set a certain number of players that can be protected. Once that number is known, each team will choose who they will protect on their own roster. Whoever is left unprotected can be drafted by the expansion teams.

Well, you can tell them you don't want to be protected. The expansion team wouldn't get you unless you signed with them because your contract is up.

If this is the last year of your contract, then you're a free agent at the end of the championship game, unless you agree to an extension before that. I think the option guys are handled differently, though... technically, they still have a contract. I think it would be pretty foul, though, for a player to be drafted in the expansion draft, and still have the ability to say, "seeya!" There's no way you could build an expansion team that way. It wasn't an issue in season 2, because nobody had an option year yet.

All player options and mutual have to be decided before the expansion draft, otherwise at the start of the draft they are automatically declined and they become a free agent. Team option players it doesnt matter for because it is the team deciding anyways.

What we're saying is that the Cougars won't even have the option to protect you or not, because you won't be on their roster. You're not under contract, and are free to sign with whomever you like... expansion or otherwise.
