Welcome to this abbreviated edition of SportsCenter for Sunday, June 4th. Not much happened today in the FSL besides contract signings. The Ohio Thunder signed MLB Ray Lewis to a two year, 1.25 million dollar contract, giving them two signings on the year, along with wide receiver Glenn Boyce. But the team that signed the most players today was the Hawaiian Surge, who picked up three free agents. Quarterback Trav Man was signed due to the 24-hour rule, stating that any player who does not agree or disagree to a contract within 24 hours of it being offered is automatically accepted. Other signees of the Surge were tight end Daniel McPhee who will receive eleven million dollars over three years, and wide receiver and kick returner J.J. Jacobson. Jacobson received many offers, but decided that 7.5 million dollars over three years was the correct decision for him. More free agents should be signed by tomorrow.
Training camp is continuing, and all players should have completed their workouts by now. If they have not done them, their GM is responsible for assisting them. Training camp will end on Tuesday night, allowing for players to be prepared for the first game of the season, on Wednesday, around 4:30.
Outside of the FSL, the Stanley Cup Finals begin Monday night in Carolina as the second seed Hurricanes square off against the eighth seed Edmonton Oilers. The game starts at 8 PM EST. The NBA Finals don't begin until Thursday, as the Miami Heat face the Dallas Mavericks. In the MLB, the Cardinals' superstar, Albert Pujols, has been placed on the 15 Day Disabled List with a strained right oblique muscle. The injury will greatly hurt Pujols's chances of breaking the single season home run record, 73, set by Barry Bonds.
That's all the time we have here at ESPN, the Worldwide Leader in Sports. C ya!
Watch the season opener right here, on ESPN, between the Ohio Thunder and the Chicago Sharks, at 4:30EST/3:30CDT on Wednesday, June 7th, followed by the Los Angeles Explosion visiting the Hawaiian Surge later that night.
