Hi, welcome to another episode of SportsCenter. After much anticipation, the first game of the FSL was played tonight, between the Chicago Sharks and the Ohio Thunder. We'll head to Chicago right now, going through all of the highlights of tonights game.
It was a sunny and warm day in Chicago, and the Sharks seemed like they enjoyed playing in this weather. We'll start out in the first quarter, on the kickoff. The Thunder received a penalty on this play, foreshadowing the rest of the game's events. The Thunder went three and out, and Chicago Shark Alex Watson began to run all over the Thunder, getting 18 yards on the Sharks's first play of the game. The Sharks continued to complete some passes, gain more yards on the ground, and lost some yards on consecutive sacks until they completed a field goal, making the score 3-0 Sharks. The Thunder were again penalized on the ensuing kickoff, and that ends the first quarter.
3-0 Sharks after 1 quarter
The Thunder punted again, and the Sharks drove down the field for the second time, getting another field goal, making the score 6-0 Sharks. The Sharks received the ball again and David Manning and Alex Watson led Chicago down the field, as the Sharks scored their third field goal of the game, making the score 9-0, in the Sharks favor. The Thunder got the ball again, and were penalized three times for holding, resulting in a 2nd and 37. The Sharks got the ball back on a punt, but were unable to put any more points on the board, as the clock ran out, marking half time.
9-0 Sharks at halftime
In the third quarter, the Sharks received the kickoff. Alex Watson soon fumbled the ball, his first bad play of the game, and the Thunder recovered, giving them some hope. The Sharks got the ball back on an interception, and drove down the field for 9 yard touchdown, thrown into the endzone by David Manning. The extra point was good, and the score became 16-0 in the Sharks favor. The third quarter ended without much more action, the Sharks running away with the game.
16-0 Sharks after 3 quarters
In the final quarter, the Sharks began with a fumble by Alex Watson that was recovered by themselves. They proceeded to punt, and the Thunder quickly began to take the ball downfield. Fernando Garcia had his only large gain of the day, a 29 yard catch thrown by Doug Flutie. The Thunder scored a touchdown, but that was all that they were able do. The two point conversion failed, making the score 16-6. The Sharks continued to kick one more field goal, and that was all of the scoring that took place in this game. The Sharks ran down the clock, and the game ended in the Sharks favor.
19-6 Sharks Final
More anticipation arouse today when the commissioner of the FSL, Da Bearfan said that he would not simulate the Explosion vs. the Surge, a very highly anticipated game. The GM of the Explosion wanted this game played, and blamed the reason for the postponing to Da Bearfan needing "...his beauty sleep..." Da Bearfan replied to this by saying, "Yeah, I have to be beautiful to sim a game, duh," which was followed by much laughter. The game is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
The players in today's game did not put up amazing stats, as the best player, according to Peter Schust of the Hawaiian Surge, was "David Manning: 8/17(47%), 115 yards, 1 TD, 0 Int, 2 Times Sacked, 89.1 QB Rating." The stats are expected to improve, as the league gets further.
Tomorrow's game between the Surge and the Explosion is scheduled for around 12:00 CDT, with week two possible later in the day.
That's all the time we have today on SportsCenter, please check back tomorrow for recaps of the games played. C ya!
