Welcome to another addition of SportsCenter, I'm your host for tonight. Only one game was played today, between the Chicago Sharks and the Los Angeles Explosion. The Explosion came out strong, and never let up. We'll start in the first quarter. The Sharks started out weakly, going three and out. The Explosion took over and drove down the field, led by RB Camell Clayton and QB Austin Powers. The Explosion were stopped short of a touchdown, but gladly took a 49 yard field goal, giving them a 3-0 lead. The Sharks again punted, and the Explosion gave the ball right back on another punt. The first quarter then ended, with the Explosion up 3-0.
In the second quarter, the Explosion began to run away with the game. It began with a 29 yard pass to Reggie Williams, then penalties brought them back to a 4th and 26 situation. They punted to the Sharks who only lost yards, and then punted back to the Explosion. They took over at the 30 yard line, and were soon in a 3rd and 26 situation. Austin Powers made a great pass, and successfully completed a first down. Camell Clayton then took a handoff into the endzone untouched to extend the Explosion's lead by 10 points. The Sharks were unable to do anything on their possession, and the 2nd quarter ended.
In the second half, the Sharks finally caught a break, getting a fumble on the L.A. 26 yard line. Things began to look bright for the Sharks, yet Alex Watson fumbled on the next play, and the ball was run back for a touchdown, giving the Explosion a commanding 17-0 lead, and that was all the points that they needed in this game. The Sharks continued to drop passes and be stopped by the Los Angeles defense. The Sharks stopped the Explosion, who then missed a field goal. The Sharks took over, and David Manning threw an interception on one of the first plays of the drive. Right after that, the Explosion threw an interception, and a Shark ran the ball back for a touchdown, giving the Sharks their only points of the game. The Sharks recovered the onside kick, but the Sharks fail to score, and turned the ball over on downs. The Explosion continued to run the clock down, and the game soon ended. The main factor in this game was the penalties. Many holdings impaired the Sharks, stopping them from putting more points on the board.
On the transaction wire today, there were no trades or signings. However, two new highly sought prospects received many offers today. The two, Wilber and Davey Davis, are the first two people of the same family to join the FSL. They highly prefer to play together, and are expected to finalize their decisions tomorrow.
Before we go, LaDanian Vick sat down with us today on our first ever edition of the SportsCenter Hot Seat presented by the FSL.
"I'd like to welcome LaDanian Vick, GM of the Hawaiian Surge, to the SportsCenter Hot Seat, brought to you by the FSL.
Welcome LaDanian. How do you feel about your team this year? Where do you think they will finish in the standings?
I feel great about my team this year, and I feel we definitely have a good chance to win the FSL. We have a great defense, and an improving offense with a great running game. Those are what you need to be champions.
You were recently involved in a controversy involving you playing against a team who played two players who were not on their team. What is your opinion on this?
My opinion on the controversey has already been pretty well known, and I'd rather not talk about it. I'm trying to get past the whole incident.
What player would you most like to run over to score a game winning touchdown?
The player I would most like to run over to score a game winning touchdown, hmm, this is a tough one. There's just so many. ;D No, really though, just scoring touchdowns is great. I don't care how I do it.
On any of the teams besides yours, who do you feel will be the MVP in the first season of the FSL? Please explain why.
I think the MVP of the league will probably be David Manning. He has great weapons on offense, and a poor running game which means he's going to be getting a lot of attempts. He already has one good game, but he had an unlucky performance against the Explosion. The referees called that game way too tight, and probably cost them the win.
Who is the MVP of your team, besides yourself?
The MVP of the team so far is Mike McKee, my CB. He is a leader on defense and puts up stats to show for it. He also makes a great co-gm. But for MVP of my team for the whole season? That's a tough call. I just have so many great players, I don't know who it would be. I mean I've got Peter Schust, the best linebacker, Ryan Lipton, who hasn't shown it yet, but has the potential to be a sharpshooter quarterback, and we've got so many other options it's unthinkable. It really is a great team.
Who in the NFL do you compare yourself to?
Who in the NFL do I compare myself to? That's hard. I would probably say Tiki Barber in his prime. If I don't run through tacklers all together, then I just bounce off them, and I've got blazing fast speed to be able to break the big one.
Is there anything else you'd like to say?
This is going to be a great FSL season, and I can't wait till my team brings home the trophy in a few months. Good luck to everybody.
Thank you LaDanian. You are now off of the SportsCenter Hot Seat."
On a final note, congratulations to the winners of the Week 2 Players of the Week, RB Fernando Garcia and OLB Trav Man. Their weekly stats are listed in the awards section.
Thank you for viewing today's episode of SportsCenter. Tomorrow's possible games include the replay of the Los Angeles Explosion and the Hawaiian Surge, the Explosion and the Ohio Thunder, and the Chicago Sharks and the Surge. Check back tomorrow for a review of those games. C ya!
