Welcome to the SportsCenter Special Edition: The Team That Was. What team was that? Well, none other then the Falcons. They've been crumbling from the inside out for some time now. They've had five trade requests from members of their team. They've had two retirements since last year, with one player coming back out of retirement which caused even more confusion which caused a lot of confusion. (That one was for you Kris) They had a general manager completely humiliating a draftee. They had a co-general manager step down. They've even had multiple threads by their own players asking the same question over and over again: What are the Falcons coming to? Well, I would like to ask the same thing. What are the Falcons coming to?
Lets start with the background. They had a co-general manager (Wilber Davis) select their draftees, since Camell Clayton wasn't available at that time. He was hailed by all, with simoltaneus agreement that his team had the best draft. What has happened since then? I'm not exactly sure what's gone on behind closed doors, but I've received word that he has quit the job (Source: fbsim.proboards107.com/index.cgi?board=gridiron&action=display&thread=1152205835&page=1 ). This could be a disaster for the Falcons, since he was the glue keeping the team together. And his contract is up at the end of this year if he wants to leave... He's their best defensive player. It would be bad. But even before this terrible news, there was even more. Several players, including Ty Summers, Ra'Shaun Salaam, Patrick Baker, and Jarret Mond all requested trades. I've received word that all but one of them, Jarret Mond, have changed their minds and agreed to play for the Falcons this year. Despite that, this team is still torn in controversy. There are hard feelings everywhere. Some people want out. Some people want to be GM. Where will it end? Find out next time on SportsCenter.
