Welcome to SportsCenter! Week 3 of the FSL was just completed, and boy was it a good one. On today's show we will have game recaps from all three games, power rankings, Coors Light Cold Hard Facts: A six pack of questions, and the top 10 plays of the week. Lets start with the recaps.
The first game of the week was Thursday night, and boy was it a good one. It feature the Chicago Sharks and Los Angeles Falcons. Chicago was fighting to keep up with Ohio for first place in the East, and Los Angeles was hoping to get their first win of the season. Here's a quick highlight:
"2nd down - Manning steps back, throws it.... INTERCEPTED! Intended for Sooner, he was double covered. The safety was in front and Leroy Jenkins was in back. Leroy jumped in and picked it off. He brought it all the way back for the.... Touchdown!!!"
That was the story of the day as the Falcons earned a convincing win with a 44-28 score. They remain in last place in the West and two games behind the Surge. The player of the game was Deron Lucas with a 114.4 rating, 209 yards, 4 TD, 14/28 and a 50% completion rating. Many argued it should of been Leroy Jenkins wtih 6 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT, 41 INT yards, 1 INT TD, and 6 pass deflections.
The second game of the week was the Orlando Dawgs vs the Ohio Thunder. Ohio squeaked out a 2 point win over the Dawgs, and the Dawgs remained the only team so far without a win. There were no standout players this game, although Fernando Garcia did win player of the game with 2 rushing touchdowns and one receiving. He also had 148 yards and a fumble.
"1st down - Gino steps back, pump fake, deeeeep pass....... .CAUGHT! Triple Coverage and he gets it!! He runs the last 10 yards for the TD. 60 yard TD catch by Allen Miller."
That was how the day went for Gino. He had an amazing game but his defense just couldn't get him the ball back at the end. He finished with a 117.3 rating, 335 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT, 15/28, and 53% completion.
The third and final game of the week was the Hawaiian Surge vs the Colorado Cougars. This was a huge game and the lead of the West was at stake. Both teams were undefeated coming into this one, and it proved to be a battle. Hawaii came out to a huge 42-17 lead, but the Cougars never gave up. Hawaii only scored one more time, but that wasn't the case for Colorado. They fought back to score 20 more points, but it wasn't enough. The final was 49-37 Hawaii. Player of the game was Brad Steeves, who has been breaking records all year. He continued that streak today with an astounding 6 receptions, 242 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 143 YAC. Every passing touchdown his quarterback had went to him. He broke the record this week for reception yards and reception TD's. This was a game for the ages.
Here are the current power rankings for the FSL:
1. Hawaiian Surge (3-0) - Hawaii is the only undefeated team left, which makes them the obvious #1 choice. They have the #1 rated offense with 46 points a game, and the #1 defense with only 25 points given up per game. They've beaten the team with the second best record, the Cougars, and last years champions, the Thunder. While they did play the second to last team in the Falcons, the beat them convincingly. They have the best QB, the best RB, and the second best WR in the league. How will they ever be stopped?
2. Ohio Thunder (2-1) - Ohio and Colorado have the same record at 2-1, but the Thunder have played harder games. They beat the Sharks, who lost last years championship game, and the Dawgs, who Colorado also beat. They also lost to the Surge by 7 less points. That's not to mention they have argueably the best defensive backfield in the league and the reigning MVP of the league. While their quarterback could use some help, they are doing fine just running the ball and relying on their defense.
3. Colorado Cougars (2-1) - Many believed this team to be the worst team in the league before the season started, but they've proved them wrong. They were undefeated until this weeks game against the Surge, and lost by less then two touchdowns. While their two wins are against two of the worst teams in the league, they're still wins. If their running game can keep it up and if they can avoid turnovers, look for this team to be a threat in the post season.
4. Los Angeles Falcons (1-2) - Said by many now as being the most overrated team in the league at the beginning of the season, it's proven true. The Falcons are only 1-2 and in last place in the West. They were blown away week 1 and lost to the division rival Cougars week two by 10 points. Their only win came against the Chicago Sharks, although they have always seemed to have an edge over Chicago. Their running game has been completely ineffective, with only 62 yards per game. While they do score a lot through the air, they also have a lot of picks. They have the worst offense in the league with only 25 points per game.
5. Chicago Sharks (1-2) - Many believed this team to be of top 3 caliber before the season, but they've had a slow start. They lost once again to their rivals, the Ohio Thunder, week one and to the Falcons week 3. Their only win was against the Dawgs, who haven't won yet. While they do have a great offense, their defense is sub par. They need to get a running game starting again.
6. Orlando Dawgs (0-3) - They were thought to be better then the other expansion team, the Colorado Cougars, but that isn't the case. They've lose every game, although every game is closer. This last week was only by 2 points. Could the fourth try be the charm? They're tied for the worst point differential in the league. Horrible defense, although the switch of Mike McKee to safety could improve that. Their offense has been average.
Coors Light Cold Hard Facts: A six pack of questions:
ESPN: We're happy to welcome Jay Marioti, columnist for the Chicago Sun Times to the show!
Jay: Thanks, I'm happy to be here.
ESPN: Let's get started. Week three just concluded, and all of the teams are pretty much still in the mix. Who are your four playoff teams?
Jay: Well, the Thunder are my top choice. They know what it takes to get it done when it counts. They won it all last year and I think they can do it again. They'll get even better when their GM returns, who is on leave due to personal reasons. I think that the other three are the Surge, the only undefeated team left, the Sharks, who played Ohio in the championship game, and.... This could suprise a few of you who have them marked as overrated, but the Cougars. They've proven their good and they deserve respect.
ESPN: Those are some good selections. Who wins rookie of the year?
Jay: This is an easy one. Brad Steeves of the Hawaiian Surge. How can you have 601 yards and 10 TD's in three games as a wide receiver and not win? Not to mention he has sure hands, only one drop all year.
ESPN: Who is your MVP of the league so far?
Jay: This is a tough one, and so far, it's just got to be Kamau Jackson. He has anchored that Cougar defense and without him they would be nothing. I mean c'mon, 5 sacks in a game? Without him they wouldn't win a game.
ESPN: Will the Surge remain undefeated?
Jay: There's no way. Teams always slip up sometimes. Look at the Colts last year. Look at the Broncos of the John Elway era. They might get close, but they'll lose one of the last few weeks. I'm looking at week six for their first loss, and if they make it through that then week nine. The Sharks may not have a very good defense, but they can match the Surge in the air all day long.
ESPN: Will the Dawgs remain winless?
Jay: I don't think so, although it's possible. There's always a day when a team will have a bad day and just slip up and surrender one. I think they can slide one by week eight or nine. I'm predicting two wins for them this season.
ESPN: Will the Thunder repeat?
Jay: They're definitely my pick to win it all. Their defense is still top notch and their offense isn't too shabby either. They've proven they can win this season and they know what it takes in the playoffs. They won't be nervous or afraid. I really like their chances.
ESPN: Thanks for your time Jay, it's always fun.
The top 10 plays of the week! I'm Chris Berman, and this is SportsCenter. Lets start off with #10:

9 - 3rd down: conway deep to holt TOUCHDOWN!!! 57 yards
Chris: Holt had 12 catches this game, this was just one of them.

Chris: He says he's going to be the Rookie of the Year, and if he keeps this up, he might be!
7 - 4th down and 3 - Shotgun, throws it down field.... COMPLETE! 20 yard gain, tackled by Jenkins. He was behind the WR but managed to catch up when he slowed down to grab it.
Chris: Great job to keep the drive going by Sooner on fourth down.
6 - 4th down: punt to the 25 and vick takes it 75 yards down the sideline TD!!
Chris: His second return TD of the year! This guys a monster.
5 - 1st down - Shotgun, rollout right, thrown to Sooner.... He is completely unguarded and he burns his former team mate Leroy Jenkins for the second time today for the Touchdown!
Chris: He had a busy week, this is the second time he's on this list.
4 - 1st down - Gino steps back, pump fake, deeeeep pass....... .CAUGHT! Triple Coverage and he gets it!! He runs the last 10 yards for the TD. 60 yard TD catch by Allen Miller.
Chris: The rookie QB shows his skill as he hooks up deep with his receiver.
3 - 2nd down - Manning steps back, throws it.... INTERCEPTED! Intended for Sooner, he was double covered. The safety was in front and Leroy Jenkins was in back. Leroy jumped in and picked it off. He brought it all the way back for the.... Touchdown!!!
Chris: What a great corner! He kept his team's morale up and helped them win with this play.
2 - 2nd down - Gino throws it to the RB out of the flat... INTERCEPTED! That's always a dangerous pass.... Kris Johnson takes it all the way for the.... Touchdown!!!!!!!!! 79 yards!!!
Chris: A record breaker!!! Amazing interception and return!
Chris: What could be better then breaking the record? Of course, breaking the record five times! For #1, we have Brad Steeves, and all five of his touchdowns in order!
1 - 3rd down:lipton goes deep to steeves for a 47 yard TOUCHDOWN!!
2nd down:lipton complete to steeves for 25 yards TOUCHDOWN!!
1st down: lipton complete to steeves on a screen pass and steeves takes it 51 yds TOUCHDOWN!!!
2nd down: lipton deep to steeves TOUCHDOWN 92 YARDS!!!!!!
