In Season 4 we will introduce the Minor Squad to increase the number of activities for new players.
The Minor Squad
The Minor Squad
Each team may maintain a Minor Squad consisting of 8 players. They play both in the major leagues and in the minor leagues and earn performance points in both. These players do not need to be compensated by the team, but players earning the league minimum contract of $500,000 in the current year are also eligible. Additionally, a player's overall rating must be less than 50 to be a member of the Minor Squad.
Each Minor Squad player must be listed on the major team depth chart in a primary backup position ( QB2, HB2, FB2, TE2, WR3-5, LOLB2, MLB2, ROLB2, CB3-5, FS2, SS2 ) and they must be marked with an asterisk (*). Minor Squad players cannot be starters in the majors.
A team may promote a Minor Squad player by signing them to a contract above the league minimum for the current year. At that point they may assume a starting position, but they will no longer play in the minor leagues.
Similarly, a team may sign a player off of another team's Minor Squad if that player has no contract or if the player's contract is for the league minimum salary in every year. However, all such interest, offers, and negotiations must take place in public on the Minor Squad board. The contract offered by the outside team must exceed the league minimum salary in every year. The original team has a right to make a counter-offer, in which league minimum salaries are allowed. The final decision to sign a contract or remain on the Minor Squad is left to the player. If the player accepts the outside contract, he is promoted and will no longer play in the minors. Additionally, the outside team must compensate the team losing a player in the amount of $500,000.
Minor Squad signings must abide by the Free Agent signing deadline.
Minor Squad players may participate in the major league training camp. However, the existing veteran training camp rule still applies (every player gets a 5 day training camp at the beginning of their career, and 1 day training camps thereafter.)
