Hey everybody, this is Johnny-B here giving you your Weekly top 10.
Last Week, Gino and I discussed the use of formula's used for QB Rating, and I acceeded to his point of view that I should be using the same formula that is used for the official stats.
This week we are looking at a different Top 10. Is D. Manning still number 1? What about our top WR or Top Back? Do the Surge still own the top 5? Find out....next!
Around this league we have some players doing some great things. I'm going to tell you who's the best...and why!
#10 Fanutz, WR, Sharks
Leads his conference in Catches (35), Yards (708), and YAC (189). He's second with 9 TD's and has only dropped two passes all year. Though his teammate Sooner has caught more TD passes (10) Fanutz is the guy who gets his team down the field to catch those TD passes.
#9 D. Flutie, QB, Thunder
Nobody has completed more passes (96) than Flutie. Nobody has thrown less interceptions (3). If it weren't for the 19 drops on the season (by his WR/TE's) he'd have completed 59% of his passes. This is the 2004 Seattle Seahawks all over again. His 89.9 rating is only 4th in the league...but how much of that is really his fault? He's leading the number 2 team in the league (5-2) with probably the most unreliable set of hands in front of him.
#8 J. Smith, CB, Surge
26 Tackles, 1 TFL, 4 INT, 1 Sack, and 11 PD. Try throwing it around him, and he'll either knock it away or show your WR how to catch it. Try to run around him, and he'll knock you flat. He's also skilled enough that they use him on Corner blitzes (TFL and a Sack)
#7 M. McComas, LB, Thunder
Leads all LB's in Tackles (42) TFL (5) and is a general disruption to any opposing offense judging by his other stats (1FF, 1INT, 3 Sacks, and 3PD) He's the #1 Defender on the #1 Defense in the league.
#6 B. Steeves, WR, Surge
How the mighty have fallen! Another WR with issues lately. He's still #1 in the league in Catches, Yards, TD's, and YAC. However, he was just held to 3 catches, 45 yards and 6 YAC with no TD. He's looked rather human since the Surge lost their one and only game. Next year that might not be a problem for him, but the somebody needs to tell the Rookie to put the past behind him (like the DB's trying to cover him at the beginning of the season!)
#5 T. Smokes, FS, Sharks
Whoa! A Defensive guy in the top 5!!! How did that happen? Here's how, 51 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 FF, 1 Int, 1 Sack, and 3 Deflections. He is all over the field. If he can improve his hands a little more, we could be looking at the next Ronnie Lott! The next best in tackles is a LB (McComas) at 42. McComas also leads the league with 5 TFL (1 better than a FS? pitiful!) Only ORL LB Sweetness has more FF (3). He's the most dominant defensive player in the league right now. And don't feed me that K. Jackson bit (6 sacks)...what has he done in the last 3 weeks?
#4 L. Vick, RB, Surge
18 carries for 131 yards for a TD is pretty good numbers for any RB. Every week that the Surge win, he has rushed for over 100 yards. Their one loss he was held to 71 yards (on 16 carries). He has broken more tackels (21) than anyone else in the league to date. He is shifty, but has enough power to get the tough yardage when needed. Nobody has touched the ball more than Vick has on the season. Inspite of his Special Teams duties (does both KR and PR) he still manages to churn out 100 yard games. Phenomenal.
#3 J. Wise, RB, Cougars
His week 7 explosion, 16 attempts for 160 yards (10ypc) and 2 TDs have vaulted him to the top of this list. Not only did he carry the ball well, his one catch went for 39 yards and a TD (for 18 points on the night) He is #1 for all active RB's in least # of fumbles (2, tied with clayton) and leads the league in Touchdowns, Yards per carry (7.8!!!) Receiving yards (86)and Receiving TD's (1). He also leads his conference in yards (919, only 5 yards behind league leader Garcia of the Thunder)
#2 David Manning, QB, Sharks.
He dropped down due to his most recent loss. He leads his conference in completion percentage and leads the league in yards, touchdowns, interceptions (tied for lowest at 3 with Flutie) and QB rating. However, two consecutive weeks of losses have hurt his status. He only threw for 2 TD's last week, which was well below his 4.5 TD per game average. If it wasn't for the Dawgs doing just slightly more poorly, then my Sharks wouldn't have a shot at the playoffs.
#1 R. Lipton, QB, Surge
He leads his conference in all statistical areas while throwing the fewest number of times in the league! His rating is .6 points lower than Mannings, but at some point in time, you have to factor in the win difference. With the race being this close between the two...he has moved up to the Number 1 spot. He's the most important position on the #1 offense in the league.
