Good evening, and welcome to Explosion Nightly. I'm your host, Tye Williams. Today was a day many people have been excitedly awaiting for a long time. No, not the legalization of marijuana. I'm talking about the FSL Playoffs! The first game brought us a rematch of last year's championship bout, and was it a contest for the FSL Films vault! The Chicago Sharks and the defending champion Ohio Thunder squared off on their quest to the Leroy Jenkins Bowl. Let's jump to the closing minute of the fourth quarter:
3+11: Shotgun... Flutie fires right... INTERCEPTED! Scarlin with the pick... he takes off on the return... and FUMBLES! Xavier Young recovers the fumble for the Sharks. They take over at their own 12.
The Sharks took advantage of the turnover, and drove into Ohio territory with under a minute to go. Kris Johnson, however, wasn't about to let the Thunder's season end just yet:
3+10: Manning rolls left... throws right deep... and INTERCEPTED! Johnson with his third of the game! Sooner makes the tackle on the short return.
Like all true classics, this contest was heading to overtime. Lugie Morgan didn't feel like playing any longer, and this is what he did about that:
2+10: Play action... blitz coming... two guys in Fluties face as he throws... fires deep to Morgan... all alone! He's standing about 5 yards deep of Scarlin and Moos! And that's the game! 78 yard touchdown pass to Morgan wins the game!
Morgan's heroics lifted the Thunder to a 23-17 win against their archrival Sharks. Ohio will be anxiously awaiting the results of tomorrow's game between the seemingly unstoppable Hawaiian Surge and the Colorado Cougars to see who they get to face next.
With that, let's check out some of today's top stories:
Los Angeles Falcons FB Kalid "the Tank" El Sundine has retired from the FSL. His final appearance will be as the West's starting FB in the Pro Bowl. Falcons GM Camell Clayton could not be reached for comment.
Orlando Dawgs SS Patrick Baker has not yet decided whether to accept his player option to remain with the Dawgs. Following an ugly confrontation with Dawgs WR Ned Bashum, Baker has claimed he will not remain in Orlando while Bashum does. The enigmatic safety has expressed a strong desire in playing for the Hawaiian Surge. If you like your daytime soaps all dramatic and full of flair, stay tuned...
Longtime FSL hooligan Trav Man, currently an ILB for the Los Angeles Falcons, is set to become a free agent this offseason. He is expecting a bidding war for his services to begin soon. Unfortunately for Trav, George W. Bush is more likely to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq before that happens. He has demanded a $6 M contract from the Falcons, but has stated he would accept a smaller deal elsewhere.
Lastly, Ned Bashum, the Orlando Dawgs slot receiver, has announced he has become a rapper. Bashum will continue playing football, and will take up his new career in the offseason.
I have a bit of a suprise for you, ladies and gentlemen, and his name is Ty Summers. Welcome to the show, Ty!
Summers: Thanx for having me!
Tye: I won't beat around the bush. What are your expectations for tomorrow's playoff game between your Surge and the Cougars?
Summers: Who? The Cougars? I figured they wouldn't make us play that laughing stock and just move us on to play the Thunder.
Tye: Them's fighting words, Ty! And speaking of fights, what did you think about todays epic game between Chicago and Ohio?
Summers: All I have to say about that game is... Kris Johnson got lucky he wasn't playing the Surge or he would have got Krisminisized, and good catch by Morgan and best of luck to the Thunder in the Championship game.
Tye: You have been one of the premiere OLBs of the FSL, earning a trip to the Pro Bowl in two consecutive seasons. You also are currently leading in the polls for LB of the Year. How does that make you feel?
Summers: I love the fact that I am going to the Pro-Bowl and that I am leading the voting for LB of the year, but I couldnt do it without my team. I want to thank Ladanian Vick for giving me the chance to play for the Surge this year and hopefully in years to come.
Tye: Speaking of Vick, do you think he will be the one to win FSL MVP honors this year?
Summers: Im not sure if Vick will, but I can guarrantee a Surge player will. We have a 3 headed monster offense (Lipton, Steeves, and Vick), any one of those guys could win the MVP and be well deserving, however my selection would be Vick.
Tye: As you know, there is plenty of talent in the FSL, and not all of it plays for the Surge. Which player would you like the chance to play with that does not play for the Surge?
Summers: That's a tough one, I would probably have to say on Offense I would love to be on the same team as Boomer Sooner, and on defense I would like for Tye Williams and I to get the chance to play on the same Defense again, only in a different uniform.
Tye: I'm flattered, Ty. Last question, and I'm sure this is a no-brainer, but who do you think will win tomorrow, and by how many points?
Summers: Surge by 20+.
Tye: Thanks for being on the show, I hope to have you back soon, and good luck tomorrow!
Summers: Thanks for having me, and good luck next season with the Falcons!!
That was quite possibly the best LB in the FSL right there, ladies and gentlemen. Look for him to be making poor Jimmy Conway run for his life all day! With that, we'll conclude tonight's program. This is Tye Williams signing off. Stay classy, FSL!
