Hello everyone, and welcome once again to 101.4 The Explosion Nightly. As you know, I am your host, Tye Williams. Today marked the conclusion of the LeRoy Jenkins Bowl, and marked the beginning of the reign of the new champions! Actually, I lie. Their reign is simply continuing! The Ohio Thunder have repeated as champions of the FSL, handilly defeating the Surge in 2 games to keep their crown atop the league. Their defense easilly handled the Surge's seemingly unstoppable offense, and Hawaii just didn't have an answer for LJB MVP Fernando Garcia.
1+10@17: Garcia left tackle this time... and nobody will touch him! Finds a crease, jukes Ray Smith on the fake outside move, and goes all the way in! 17 yard TD run.
1+10: Handoff... Garcia runs left tackle... follows his blocker... and sprung! 28 yard touchdown run! The Thunder made short work of that opportunity.
2+3: Garcia up the middle... blitz is on... and finds daylight! 54 yard touchdown run! Once he got through the line, it was all over but the celebration.
1+10@17: Garcia left tackle this time... and nobody will touch him! Finds a crease, jukes Ray Smith on the fake outside move, and goes all the way in! 17 yard TD run.
The Surge of course had their own misfortunes, like the following:
4+6: 49 yard field goal attempt... CLANG! Hits the crossbar square and bounces out short. No good.
The Surge offense as a whole really seemed to struggle against the Thunder's powerful defense, featuring Mike McComas, Kris Johnson, and Shawn Dangerfield. Ladanian Vick was absolutely stymied in Game 2, somthing I never thought I would see happen in my lifetime. Simply saying well done is not enough of a recognition to these guys. Their new LJB Rings ought to be just perfect for that!
Quite a bit happened in the news today, let's jump on in and not waste any time!
"Mean Joe" Jackson has stated in his latest press conference that the Surge officially not interested in SS Patrick Baker. Surge GM Ladanian Vick could not be reached for comment. This could be a HUGE shakeup of the free agency market right here, folks.
Mike McComas, GM of the Ohio Thunder, has refuted claims made by Torry Holt that he would be made Co-GM if they were to sign him. Holt then said this was only if Kris Johnson were to leave by way of free agency or expansion team. Is Holt trying to increase offers by making false claims? Or is he just one confused individual? Stay tuned..
The Los Angeles Falcons have exceeded the salary cap by $1.5 M. Here is an official statement from Gino DeBomb:
"Cap penalty is double the amount you're over for the previous season. That reduces the Falcons budget to 57M for next year.
Also, it's worth noting here that the competition committee has agreed that since existing teams get to carry over leftover budget money from previous seasons, plus carrying a roster laden with veteran talent, this gives them an unfair advantage over expansion teams. To slightly offset this, the competition committee has agreed that expansion teams will receive a one-time allotment of 5M extra to their team budgets. Season 2 expansion teams are eligible to receive it as well.
Added all up, this spells real trouble for the Falcons organization. They have a lot of holes to fill on this team and a lot of players who need further developing, and that takes money. They've already finished behind two expansion teams, and those expansion teams will begin the season in far better financial shape than the Falcons. With better teams AND better resources, the Falcons are likely to lose more ground on the rest of the league without making significant moves to address this."
Only time will tell how the Falcons' new management intends to solve this dilemma.
Trav Man, the ILB everyone loves to be better than, has hit the free agent market. He is apparently ready for free agency to begin so he can be not wanted. Will being spurned by the Falcons demoralize Trav? Or will he be enjoying life at the unemployment office and his food stamps? Once again, stay turned on this developing story.
Prospect WR DeAngelo Fitzgerald has created a group named " TIP DRILLZ" for the top WRs and TEs in the FSL. What this has to do with anything is beyond us here at the Explosion, as no details are available. All we know is that this guy is Deuce Fitzgerald's long lost twin or something.
It's been a big day, ladies and gentlemen. So let's sit back, relax, and let it all sink in. The offseason is upon us, which means a lot of work for poor Tye Willie. So bear with me if it takes even longer for me to get these shows running. This is Tye Williams signing off, and congragulations to both the FSL Champion Ohio Thunder and the Hawaiian Surge for fantastic seasons.
